Past Projects

Looking back at our achievements over the past 10 years (2011-2021)

Under our first objective of providing financial assistance to children with their educational needs, the Trust has accomplished the following. Several of these projects are ongoing:

Financial Assistance for Needy Children

Provided scholarships to 14 students on average per year from 2014 to 2020 - Recipients included students from Sacred Heart Convent, Galle, St. Thomas's College, Kotte and Meeran Maha Vidyalaya, Kandewatta. Several of of these recipients excelled in their education and a few after completing their GCE Advanced Level examinations now attend University.

Provided financial assistance to 9 orphans from 2011, an initiative started by Rosina in 2005 following the 2004 tsunami - Monitored recipient progress and well being through in person visits and regular communications with both students and guardians.

Improving the Quality of Life - Special Needs (SN)

From 2016 set up and conducted orientation and training camps for SN adults and their caretakers from Galle, Matara, Mahiyanga and Minneriya. Trained on average 30 SNs and caretakers per camp. Provided funding for events and day -to-day activities for several institutions that care for SNs from 2012 to 2016. Initiated conversations among caretakers, families and local stakeholders about SNs quality of life and living a 'full' life. Since 2017 organized World Down Syndrome Day events to raise awareness and provide an opportunity for SNs to engage with society.

Set up a dedicated website as a resource for families with SNs - lankaspecialchild.org

Along with the Sacred Heart Convent Past Pupil's Association organized a fund raising event - Hearts in Harmony (2013), key outcomes of which were - Financial Assistance for Needy Children and Quality of Life - Special Needs (SN)
